Abstract
It was recommended to develop the chair side dental assistant in Korea. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the opinion and recognition of community dentists about the chair side dental assistant. The authors had questioned to 1,000 community dentists about the chair side assistant, and 394 community dentists replied. Thereafter, the data were analyzed and discussed. The obtained results were as follows:
1. Average number of dentists in one community dental clinic was 1.1 and average number of auxilliary manpower for dental care in one community dental clinic was 2.2.
2. 59.9% of community dental clinics hired aid-nurse as auxilliary manpower fur dental care and 51,5% of community dental clinics hired oral hyginists, 40.0 of community dental clinics hired persons who have no licenses.
3. 95.2% of community dentists wanted to develop the chairside dental assistant.
4. It was calculated that 14,098 chairside dental assistants were needed in 1992.
5. It was recommended that training of chairside dental assistant would be in
private school within ,1 year with aid-nurse.
